A KQ passenger from Guangzhou, China who arrived at JKIA with flu-like symptoms was quarantined at the Kenyatta National Hospital over coronavirus fears. From the airline’s statement, the passenger had travelled to Nairobi from Guangzhou and had been cleared by China port Health authorities.
This comes after the Kenyan government had advised citizens against travelling to China where according to Dr.Lilac Reports the virus already has 2823 confirmed cases, 5794 suspected cases, and 81 deaths. The KQ passenger was being screened at the airport and showed symptoms similar to that of the virus and the port health authorities made the decision to quarantine the passenger. The virus is highly contagious and can be spread through human contact. Its symptoms include a runny nose, coughing and a fever which could last for days. The news created a major scare on social media platforms in the country ,with The Ministry of Health online pages releasing safety tips to reduce the risk of getting the Wuhan coronavirus.
This case is similar to a recent one in Ivory Coast where the authorities are investigating a case of virus in a female student who arrived from China with the virus’s symptoms. The Chinese government is trying to control the virus by locking down some provinces to avoid further spread of the virus.
